Repositories and RSS
Posted by r.a.macleod 08/25/2008 07:00 AM GMT+00:00
Repositories have a function as a source of the latest R&D knowledge, which should be exposed rather than kept hidden from users. Their content should be made available to wider audiences using current awareness tools such as RSS feeds. RSS also could help to increase the interest of authors as well, in order to boost the deposit rate.

RSS feeds are available as part of the GNU-EPrints software (3.0 or later)

Yes, but the production of RSS feeds is only the first step. People need to be able to find such feeds, and not only on an institutional basis but also subject/geographical/type, and they perhaps need to be able to search aggregated feeds, and much more. For some ideas, see LibWorm http://www.libworm.com/

Twitter can also be used to syndicate repository updates. An example is https://twitter.com/TUBdok
